About the Role
What if your systems programming skills could directly shape the infrastructure powering the next generation of AI? We're looking for senior C++ engineers to design and build the high-performance tooling, data pipelines, and evaluation systems that leading AI labs depend on to train and improve their models.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role for experienced engineers who want to work on meaningful, high-impact systems — not maintenance tickets and tech debt. You'll be embedded in real production workflows alongside top research and engineering teams.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 20–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and optimize high-performance C++ systems supporting AI data pipelines and evaluation workflows
- Develop full-stack tooling and backend services for large-scale data annotation, validation, and quality control
- Profile and tune existing C++ codebases — hunting down bottlenecks, eliminating edge cases, and improving reliability at scale
- Embed scripting languages within C++ applications to create flexible, extensible internal tooling
- Collaborate with data, research, and engineering teams to support model training and evaluation infrastructure
- Participate in synchronous design reviews to iterate on architecture and implementation decisions
Who You Are
- 3–5+ years of professional experience writing production-quality C++
- Strong full-stack development background with a deep foundation in systems programming
- Experienced profiling and optimizing code for performance in data-intensive environments
- Comfortable embedding scripting languages (Python, Lua, or similar) within C++ applications
- Native or fluent English speaker with clear written and verbal communication skills
- Able to commit 20–40 hours per week consistently
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with data annotation, data quality pipelines, or evaluation systems
- Familiarity with AI/ML workflows, model training infrastructure, or benchmarking pipelines
- Experience with distributed systems architecture or developer tooling
- Background working directly with AI research teams or production ML infrastructure
Why Join Us
- Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs
- Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
- Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, high-impact engineering work
- Contribute directly to the infrastructure shaping how next-generation AI is built and evaluated
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
