About the Role
What if your expertise in high-performance C++ could directly shape the infrastructure that powers the world's most advanced AI systems? We're looking for a senior C++ engineer to design and build the data pipelines, annotation tooling, and evaluation infrastructure that leading AI labs depend on to train and validate next-generation models.
This is a fully remote, flexible contract role for an experienced systems engineer who wants to do meaningful, high-impact work at the frontier of AI development.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 20–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design, build, and optimize high-performance C++ systems that power AI data pipelines and evaluation workflows
- Develop backend services and tooling for large-scale data annotation, validation, and quality control
- Improve reliability, performance, and correctness across existing C++ codebases
- Identify bottlenecks and edge cases in data and system behavior, and implement scalable solutions
- Collaborate closely with data, research, and engineering teams to support model training and evaluation
- Participate in synchronous design reviews to iterate on system architecture and implementation decisions
Who You Are
- 5+ years of professional experience writing production-grade C++
- Strong background in asynchronous network programming — event loops, RPC frameworks, or high-performance microservices
- Experience working with high-throughput databases or message queues
- Native or fluent English speaker with clear written and verbal communication skills
- Able to commit 20–40 hours per week with consistency and reliability
- Self-directed and comfortable operating in fast-moving engineering environments
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with data annotation, data quality pipelines, or evaluation systems
- Familiarity with AI/ML workflows, model training, or benchmarking infrastructure
- Experience with distributed systems architecture or developer tooling
- Background working alongside research teams or in AI-adjacent environments
Why Join Us
- Work directly with leading AI labs on production systems that matter
- Fully remote — work from wherever you do your best work
- Flexible hours with meaningful, high-impact engineering challenges
- Contribute to the infrastructure that shapes how next-generation AI is built and evaluated
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as projects evolve
