Mathematics Researcher (Masters/PhDs)

$75-90/hrRemoteFreelanceSTEM

About the Role

What if your expertise in advanced mathematics could directly shape how AI reasons, solves problems, and thinks quantitatively — for millions of people around the world?

We're looking for Mathematics Researchers with Masters or PhD-level credentials to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models. Your work will influence how AI handles everything from complex proofs to real-world applied problems — making a genuine, lasting impact on the frontier of AI development.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built around your schedule. No prior AI experience needed — just deep mathematical expertise and a sharp eye for rigor and clarity.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and review advanced mathematical problems with real-world relevance and intellectual depth
  • Apply your expertise in algebra, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics, or related areas to design challenging, well-structured problem statements
  • Evaluate AI-generated mathematical reasoning for correctness, rigor, and clarity
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and domain experts to strengthen model reasoning capabilities
  • Ensure mathematical precision and depth across all deliverables — catching errors that others would miss

Who You Are

  • Hold a Master's or PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field
  • Deeply proficient in one or more areas: algebra, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics, or equivalent
  • Experienced with Python, MATLAB, Mathematica, or similar tools for mathematical computation or research
  • A clear, precise written communicator who can explain complex ideas with accuracy and care
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated — you hold your own work to a high standard
  • Fluent in English and currently based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or AI evaluation workflows
  • Background in applied mathematics, mathematical modeling, or computational research
  • Experience writing or reviewing mathematical content for academic or educational audiences

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading AI research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — structure your work around your life, not the other way around
  • Freelance autonomy with the substance of meaningful, intellectually stimulating work
  • Make a direct, tangible impact on how AI reasons through complex mathematical problems
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
