Biology Specialist (Masters/PhDs)

$75-90/hrRemoteFreelanceSTEM

About the Role

What if your years of advanced biology training could directly shape how AI reasons through some of the most complex problems in science? We're looking for Biology Specialists with graduate-level expertise to help build and refine cutting-edge AI models — ensuring they can tackle real-world challenges in genetics, biotechnology, bioinformatics, and beyond.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed for researchers and scientists who want to put their deep domain knowledge to meaningful use. No prior AI experience needed — just rigorous scientific thinking and the ability to communicate it clearly.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and critically review advanced biology problems with real-world relevance
  • Apply your expertise in genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology, or bioinformatics to design complex, rigorous problem statements
  • Evaluate AI-generated scientific reasoning for accuracy, depth, and methodological soundness
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and domain experts to push the boundaries of AI model performance
  • Ensure scientific rigor, clarity, and precision across all deliverables
  • Work independently on task-based assignments — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Hold a Master's or PhD in Biology or a closely related field (Genetics, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, etc.)
  • Strong expertise in at least one of: genetics, biotechnology, or bioinformatics
  • Comfortable working with Python or R for research, data analysis, or scripting
  • Exceptionally clear written communicator — you can translate complex science into precise, well-structured explanations
  • Detail-oriented and methodical, with high standards for scientific accuracy
  • Fluent in English

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, data quality assessment, or evaluation systems
  • Background in computational biology or experience working at the intersection of biology and technology
  • Familiarity with AI tools or language model workflows
  • Experience writing scientific literature, grant proposals, or technical documentation

Why Join Us

  • Work on genuinely cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, task-based scientific work
  • Make a direct, tangible impact on how AI understands and reasons through advanced biology
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
