Biology Researcher (Masters/PhDs)

$75-90/hrRemoteFreelanceSTEM

About the Role

What if your years of biology expertise could directly shape how AI reasons about genetics, biotechnology, and the life sciences — for researchers and students around the world?

We're looking for Biology experts with advanced degrees to tackle complex, real-world problems that teach AI how to think like a scientist. This isn't data entry — it's intellectually stimulating work that puts your domain knowledge front and centre.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role designed to fit around your existing commitments. Whether you're a postdoc, an independent researcher, or a working professional with a Masters or PhD, this is your opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge AI development without leaving your field.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and critically review advanced biology problems with real-world scientific relevance
  • Apply your expertise in genetics, molecular biology, biotechnology, bioinformatics, or related areas to design rigorous, complex problem sets
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and domain experts to enhance how AI models reason through life science challenges
  • Ensure scientific accuracy, clarity, and depth across all deliverables
  • Help set the standard for how AI understands and communicates biological concepts

Who You Are

  • Hold a Master's or PhD in Biology or a closely related field — Genetics, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, or equivalent
  • Comfortable working with Python or R in a research or analytical context
  • Deep subject matter expertise in one or more areas: genetics, biotechnology, or bioinformatics
  • Exceptionally clear communicator — you can explain complex ideas with precision and without jargon when needed
  • Self-directed and dependable — you hold yourself to a high standard when working independently
  • Currently based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, evaluation systems, or AI training workflows
  • Background in academic publishing, research writing, or peer review
  • Familiarity with computational biology tools or bioinformatics pipelines
  • Experience translating technical scientific content for diverse audiences

Why Join Us

  • Work on genuinely interesting problems — your scientific expertise is the product
  • Fully remote and asynchronous — structure your hours around your life
  • Collaborate with world-leading AI research teams on frontier model development
  • Freelance flexibility with meaningful, substantive work — not busywork
  • Contribute to AI that will shape how science is taught, communicated, and applied globally
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
