Atmospheric Science Expert (Masters/PhDs)

$75-90/hrRemoteFreelanceSTEM

About the Role

What if your deep expertise in atmospheric science could directly shape how AI understands and reasons about our planet's most complex systems? We're looking for Atmospheric Science experts to develop and evaluate advanced scientific problems — helping train the next generation of AI models to think more rigorously about climate, weather, and the environment.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for researchers and academics who want to apply their domain expertise in a high-impact, forward-looking context. No prior AI experience needed — your scientific depth is what matters.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Design and develop advanced, real-world atmospheric science problems across areas like climate modeling, meteorology, and environmental systems
  • Solve and review complex scientific problem sets to ensure accuracy, rigor, and depth
  • Apply your expertise to craft nuanced, multi-layered challenges that push AI reasoning to its limits
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and fellow domain experts to improve model outputs
  • Evaluate the quality and scientific validity of AI-generated responses across atmospheric and environmental topics
  • Work independently on task-based assignments — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Master's or PhD in Atmospheric Science, Climate Science, Meteorology, or a closely related field
  • Strong expertise in one or more of: climate modeling, atmospheric dynamics, ecology, or environmental sustainability
  • Comfortable coding in Python or R for research, data analysis, or modeling
  • Exceptionally clear written communicator — you can explain complex science with precision and clarity
  • Detail-oriented and rigorous — scientific accuracy is non-negotiable for you
  • Fluent in English

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, evaluation systems, or AI training workflows
  • Background in peer review, academic publishing, or curriculum development
  • Familiarity with large-scale climate datasets, reanalysis products, or Earth system models
  • Experience working across interdisciplinary research teams

Why Join Us

  • Work on cutting-edge AI projects alongside leading research labs and AI teams
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, intellectually stimulating work
  • Apply your scientific expertise to problems that matter — shaping how AI understands our planet
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
