About the Role
We're looking for environmental engineering specialists to help train and improve advanced AI models. Your technical expertise will directly shape how AI understands and reasons through complex environmental challenges — from water treatment and air quality to hazardous waste remediation and regulatory compliance.
This is a unique opportunity to apply your hard-earned domain knowledge in a cutting-edge AI context, working flexibly and remotely on your own schedule.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design Complex Problems — Develop advanced environmental engineering scenarios spanning contaminant transport, mass balance in treatment plants, hydrology, and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions — including chemical dosage calculations, hydraulic flow models, and pollutant dispersion simulations — that serve as the gold standard for AI responses
- Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated remediation plans, environmental impact statements, and mathematical reasoning for technical accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance (EPA, ISO 14001, and similar frameworks)
- Improve AI Reasoning — Identify logical errors in AI outputs — such as incorrect stoichiometry in biological processes or failure to account for secondary environmental impacts — and provide structured, actionable feedback
Who You Are
- Currently pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (with environmental focus), or a closely related field
- Strong foundational knowledge in one or more of: aquatic chemistry, wastewater process design, air quality engineering, or hazardous waste remediation
- Able to communicate complex ecological and engineering concepts clearly and precisely in writing
- Meticulous attention to detail — unit conversions, chemical equations, and regulatory compliance logic are second nature to you
- No prior AI experience required — we'll guide you through everything
Nice to Have
- Prior experience with data annotation, quality evaluation, or technical review workflows
- Familiarity with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, EPA tools)
Why Join Us
- Work on cutting-edge AI projects with leading AI research labs and teams
- Fully remote and flexible — work on your own schedule, anywhere
- Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and global collaboration
- Make a meaningful impact — your expertise helps AI reason more accurately about real-world environmental challenges
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
