$75-90/hrRemoteFreelanceSTEM

About the Role

What if your expertise in advanced mathematics could directly shape how AI reasons through complex problems — influencing the tools that millions of researchers, engineers, and students will rely on?

We're looking for Mathematics Researchers with graduate-level credentials to help train and evaluate cutting-edge AI models. You'll craft and solve challenging problems, stress-test AI reasoning, and ensure mathematical rigour across a range of advanced topics — from abstract algebra to applied statistics.

This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for people who think deeply about mathematics and want their expertise to have real-world impact beyond academia.

  • Organization: Alignerr
  • Type: Hourly Contract
  • Location: Remote
  • Commitment: 10–40 hours/week

What You'll Do

  • Develop, solve, and critically review advanced mathematical problems with real-world relevance
  • Apply graduate-level expertise in algebra, calculus, statistics, discrete mathematics, or related areas to design rigorous, complex problem sets
  • Evaluate AI-generated mathematical reasoning for correctness, depth, and clarity
  • Collaborate asynchronously with AI researchers and domain experts to improve model performance
  • Ensure mathematical rigour, precision, and conceptual clarity across all deliverables
  • Work independently on task-based assignments — fully on your own schedule

Who You Are

  • Holds a Master's or PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field
  • Deep, working expertise in one or more of: algebra, calculus, statistics, or discrete mathematics
  • Comfortable coding in Python, MATLAB, or Mathematica for research or problem-solving
  • Exceptional written communicator — you can explain complex ideas with precision and clarity
  • Naturally detail-oriented with a rigorous, methodical approach to mathematical work
  • Currently based in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, or New Zealand

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience with data annotation, evaluation systems, or AI training workflows
  • Background in applied mathematics, computational research, or quantitative modelling
  • Experience writing or reviewing technical mathematical content for publication or instruction
  • Familiarity with AI tools or large language model evaluation as an end user

Why Join Us

  • Work on frontier AI projects alongside world-leading research labs
  • Fully remote and flexible — work when and where it suits you
  • Freelance autonomy with the structure of meaningful, intellectually challenging work
  • Put your graduate expertise to use in a high-impact, applied setting outside traditional academia
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
