About the Role
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to make AI smarter, safer, and more technically rigorous — and we need environmental engineers to make it happen.
As an AI Data Trainer, you'll put your deep domain knowledge to work stress-testing and improving advanced AI models on topics like water treatment, air quality, contaminant transport, and environmental compliance. Your expertise becomes the benchmark that future AI systems are trained against.
This is a fully remote, flexible freelance contract — work on your own schedule, as much or as little as fits your life.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design Complex Problems — Craft advanced environmental engineering challenges spanning contaminant transport, mass balance in treatment systems, hydrology, Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), and more
- Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step technical solutions — including chemical dosage calculations, hydraulic flow models, and pollutant dispersion analyses — that serve as the definitive reference for AI training
- Audit AI Outputs — Evaluate AI-generated remediation plans, environmental impact statements, and technical analyses for accuracy, safety, and regulatory compliance (EPA, ISO 14001, and beyond)
- Sharpen AI Reasoning — Identify flaws in AI logic — incorrect stoichiometry, overlooked secondary impacts, regulatory misinterpretations — and provide structured feedback to improve how models think through problems
Who You Are
- Holds or is pursuing a Master's or PhD in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering (environmental focus), or a closely related field
- Strong foundational knowledge in one or more core areas: aquatic chemistry, wastewater process design, air quality engineering, or hazardous waste remediation
- Able to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and precisely in writing
- Meticulous attention to detail — unit conversions, chemical equations, and regulatory logic matter here
- No prior AI experience required — we'll get you up to speed
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, quality review, or evaluation workflows
- Familiarity with environmental modeling software (e.g., AERMOD, SWMM, or similar)
- Background in EHS compliance or environmental consulting
